Graphics Cards For Computers

Computer usage requires both input and output usage. Outputs are either sound or video. The output of a computer is performed with the technology of a video card. This card will interpret information and transfer it to the computer screen where you can see it visually. The most common type of video output is GUI, which is used by Microsoft and stands for Graphical User Interfaces.

All computers have built graphic cards in their computers. Without them, you would not be able to see anything on the screen. The graphics card is usually a standard card, but there are better cards that you can get to insert into the motherboard, especially if you are a gamer. Some of these cards have 3-D technology.

The standard audio card is an Integrated video processors. This comes with the computer and is attached to the motherboard. This does not need any special help and begins to work the minute you plug in the monitor.

If however, you want to play games that require intricate graphics and even 3-D images, you are going to have to get another graphics card. There are advanced cards that will enable you to have these type of images and can really improve the quality of your graphics.

As in the case of buying a sound card, you have to know what type of graphics card is already contained in your motherboard. While most of them have integrated video processors, not all of them do. One of the newest types of graphics cards is the PCI-Express which is quickly replacing the AGP, which stands for Advanced Graphics Port, as the most sought after graphics card. AGP is still sold, however, and is reasonably priced, so will probably be continued to be sold for years to come.

Video cards and graphic cards have their own chips and processors. The higher the memory in these chips and the faster the processor; the better the graphics. If you want to have 3-D imaging on your computer, you are going to need 640 MB of memory on your video card. This is the highest end type of video card and is designed for graphics designers.

You also need to make sure you use a GPU processor for your video card. A GPU works best for the video cards that hold the 3-D graphics. Your basic computer should also have plenty of memory to hold the game. You should look for a computer with 256 MB so that you can play the best games.

The type of video or graphics card you get will determine the price of the card. Some cards sell for as low as $50, whereas a card ideal for gamers who want the best graphics can sell for up to $200. A specialized card for graphic designers can go for as high as $500.
