Learning To Use Computers

How many times have you heard someone say that they are not able to use a computer? This is sad, especially when many people who say this are adults who are actually operating cars. If you can drive a steel machine that has the potential to kill someone, you should be able to master a skill that little kids in Kindergarten are learning. You can take a class or you can self taught.

Computers today are more than just a little user friendly - they are pretty much idiot proof. Do not be afraid that you are going to blow up the world by using a computer - War Games was just a movie. You can venture into the world of the internet without fear of being attacked by predators, too. One caveat to the internet, however. Once you get on, you will not want to get off. The internet is addictive.

Using computers involves much more than just the internet. There are software programs such as word processing programs that have to be mastered. There are new software programs coming out all of the time, as well. Fortunately, because most of us operate on a Windows system, the software is very user friendly. Most new software will talk you through using it. And once you learn, it is like riding a bike. You will not forget the skills.

Years ago, computers were much bulkier. There were no windows and we had to operate on DOS. This meant a black screen with green words. You had a template placed on your computer that taught you certain commands. You had to learn the commands by heart after a while because someone was always taking the template.

With the introduction of Windows, the mouse was also introduced. The mouse enabled people to maneuver the computer without having to use a concoction of different key strokes. It was pure genius. As time wore on, the mouse became more sophisticated.

The best way to start learning the computer is to start playing with it a bit. Learn how to use the mouse to maneuver around the screen. Learn how to use different programs such as word processing programs. Learn how to keyboard. What was once called "typing" in school is now called "keyboarding" and is a required class in some school districts, as it should be. The world is moving to a computer age and anyone who does not have these skills is going to be left behind.

Once you have lost your fear about using he computer, you can venture online. This is not scary. You will have fun. Imagine any type of information that you want, right at your fingertips. That is what the internet it. It is an information portal, the largest in the world.

Learn to use the computer. Do not be afraid of this new technology - embrace it. It will open up an entire new world for you.
