MORE MAC

After selling 200 or so of the computer, Jobs attracted the attention of some investors, co-founding Apple Computer with Wozniak, and introducing the Apple II computer in 1977.

There are only few companies that have an as interesting past as Apple Computer, a company founded by two young college-drop-outs that grew extremely fast in the early years of the computer age, lost nearly its entire market share with the uprising of the Wintel generation but came back by reinventing the computer.

Windows is how MS managed to turn a real computer into a Macintosh.

The Apple II was succeeded by the Apple III in May 1980 as the company struggled to compete against IBM and Microsoft in the lucrative business and corporate computing market. However, the continuing development of Microsoft Windows had given birth to an interface that was competitive with Apple's. Instead they sued Microsoft for theft of intellectual property, in Apple Computer, Inc.

The AIM alliance hoped that PReP's performance and Apple's software would leave the PC far behind, thus countering Microsoft, which had become Apple's chief competitor. At the 1997 Macworld Expo, Steve Jobs announced that Apple would be entering into a partnership with Microsoft to release new versions of Microsoft Office for the Macintosh as well as a US$150 million investment in non-voting Apple stock. Adobe, the largest Apple software partner, also sells its Mac-compatible software, as does Microsoft, who sells Microsoft Office for the Mac.

In the midst of all kinds of life-improving potions, plants and macrame, a young man stepped out from a simple curtained booth and handed me a flyer for the Apple Computer, at the memorable price of $666.

Imac

The iMac sold close to 800,000 units in its first five months and helped return the company to sustained profitability for the first time since 1993. As for the Macintosh, Apple's design team progressively abandoned the flashy colors of the iMac G3 era in favor of white polycarbonate for consumer lines such as the iMac and iBook, as well as the educational eMac, and metal enclosures for the professional lines.
