Finding Use For Your Old Computer
There is a saying that your computer is outdated the minute that you walk out the door with it from the store. To a point, this is true. Computer technology is moving so fast that it is making it difficult for people to catch up. We are in the middle of the technological revolution and have not even yet reached the peak. New products and faster computers keep coming out all of the time. Sooner or later, you are going to have to sell your computer.
Because the newer computers have come down in price considerably, especially in the last year, it sometimes pays to just get a new computer rather that to continue adding to the hard drive of your current computer and messing with the mother board. These parts cost money and the entire process takes time. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get yourself a new computer.
What do you do with the old computer? There are many different things that you can do with an old computer, besides toss it in the trash. Here are a few things that you can do if you happen to have an old computer:
Give it to young kids
Whether they are your young kids or your nieces or nephews, a computer can make a wonderful gift for a child who likes to play little games that can be downloaded. Forget about giving it to an older kid, though, who will probably know more about the computer than you and will want to do things on it, like "burn" a CD that you do not know how to do. Your older kids will shun your old computer and chances are they already have one. That is better than yours. So give your old computer to some little kids who will appreciate it.
Donate it to a school
Schools are always looking for computers and things that they can use in the classroom, especially schools in poor neighborhoods. This can be the difference between one student learning a skill and getting a decent job. Each gift touches so many lives and you would be surprised at what a donation like this can do for a school, let alone the children who attend the school.
Put an ad in the local shopper or on a bulletin board for "free computer"
This will get some calls. You can screen the calls and see who needs the item the most and give it to them. Or you can simply do the first come, first serve method. Whichever way, the computer will be out of your house and in the hands of another family.
Use it as a practice machine
If you are planning on working on computers, you can use your old computer as a practice machine so you can learn the different components and what goes where. The computer can be your own personal Frankenstein, so to speak.
